A blatant purse-snatching attempt at Richmond’s Sun Sui Wah restaurant last Thursday was caught on tape and is currently being investigated by police.
In two videos being circulated on the Chinese social media platform WeChat, a man wearing a grey sweater with black and white stripes and a black cap was seen reaching for a woman’s purse on her chair before walking over to another table and grabbing a bag next to a man.
Another man, dressed in a white shirt and wearing a white cap, appeared to be on the lookout.
The first man was later seen running out of the restaurant with others apparently chasing after him.
Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dennis Hwang confirmed that two male suspects had tried to steal a messenger bag belonging to a male patron at the restaurant on April 27.
“The patron pursued the males and the messenger bag was recovered. No one was reportedly injured,” said Hwang.
“It appears that the suspects acted in tandem with one acting as a lookout for the other.”
The incident was reported to police later in the afternoon at 2 p.m. on the same day and Richmond RCMP is currently investigating the incident.
“The Richmond RCMP would like to remind the community to safeguard their personal items at all times to report any suspicious activity or crimes in progress to police,” said Hwang.
