Police are looking for dashcam footage after a Richmond RCMP officer was almost struck while attempting a traffic stop near the Knight Street Bridge.

According to Richmond RCMP, the 'near miss' took place between 8:40 and 9:10 a.m. on May 19 on Highway 91 near Knight Street Bridge.

An officer conducting speed enforcement with a laser gun had observed a vehicle allegedly travelling 145 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, said police.

The officer, who was on foot, attempted to stop the vehicle but had to "dive to the side of the road to avoid being struck" when the vehicle did not stop.

The vehicle is described as a black sedan with a broken passenger side mirror and was last seen travelling eastbound on Highway 91.

Fortunately, our officer was not seriously injured but this type of driving behaviour puts all road users at risk, said Sgt. Eric Baskette of Richmond RCMP's road safety unit.
