A popular fried chicken, celebrity-owned eatery in Richmond is saying farewell to local foodies this week.
Food lovers were saddened to find out Uncle's Snack Shop, at 8180 Westminister Hwy. near No. 3 Road, is now permanently closed, with its Instagram and Facebook pages removed.
Restaurant owner Osric Chau, a Vancouver-born actor and producer, told the Richmond News the pipes above his restaurant burst earlier this year and although they were fixed, the damage to the ceiling and walls hasn't been repaired yet.
The Richmond News has previously reported that Uncle’s Snack Shop was forced to close after frozen pipes burst and flooded the place.
With the floor sloping on one side and the lease running out, Chau said it’s time to close the restaurant’s doors.
"It's been a crazy ride with Uncle’s."
Uncle’s Snack Shop opened its doors last spring and featured a variety of snack food, such as Taiwanese sausage corndogs, ramen "shake shake" fries and green onion and ginger fried chicken sandwiches.
Chau hosted movie nights last summer by inviting community members to have fried chicken while watching movies on the eatery's patio.
Although the restaurant only operated for less than a year, it got more than five hundred online comments from customers.
Former customer Paulina said the eatery the chefs there were able to continually transform the food and ambiance.
“I had the chicken katsu and stir fry soya noodles, which were pretty good - great place to share some snacks with friends and play some games.”
Another customer, Jeffrey Zhang, said he was there a couple of times and found that the chicken was “consistently juicy and the buns are local.”
