Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of cold, icy weather for Richmond and Metro Vancouver.

A mix of rain and snow, plus possible freezing rain, is in the forecast for Metro Vancouver – including Richmond – on Tuesday.

A special weather statement from Environment Canada says a cold airmass will lie over most of the South Coast Tuesday, as a ridge of high pressure over the Interior kept skies mostly clear overnight.

The icy weather is expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon, due to a “frontal disturbance advancing from the south,” according to the weather agency. This will spread rain mixed with snow over the region.

Freezing rain is also possible, particularly over inland sections.

In addition to Richmond, the special weather statement applies to Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, North and West Vancouver, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Delta, Surrey and Langley.
