Richmond Mounties are investigating what appears to be a double shooting incident on Monday afternoon, one of which was a few yards from two schools.

According to Richmond RCMP, the first incident allegedly took place at around noon near Dyke and No. 4 roads, close to the south arm of the Fraser River.

However, while officers were investigating this incident, police received a report of a second shooting at around 1:10 p.m. on Granville Avenue, near No. 4 Road, which is close to MacNeill secondary and Anderson elementary.

About two hours later, a man who believed to be connected to the shootings was taken into custody in Vancouver.

“Fortunately, no one was injured in either of the shootings or during the arrest,” read the RCMP’s statement.

“There are no concerns for public safety at this time.”

The RCMP says the motive for the shootings and “whether there is a nexus to the Lower Mainland gang conflict are still under investigation.”

Anyone who may have witnessed, or has information regarding these shootings, is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please, contact Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit them online at www.solvecrime.ca.
