With B.C. restaurants only open at half-capacity, or still closed, a Richmond-based wholesaler has launched a new home delivery model.

Intercity Packer’s, which supplies custom-cut meat and seafood to restaurants, made the pivot to help keep product moving and employees working, according to a statement from the company.

Customers can order online at shopintercity.ca, and are able to select free curbside pickup from Intercity Packer’s No. 6 Road location, or contactless, refrigerated home delivery, which is available throughout Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

“Our new home delivery platform represents our commitment to providing our community with safe, high quality and carefully sourced produce, meat and seafood products,” said Danny Ransom, Intercity Packers’ general manager, in a press release.

Examples of items include steak, poultry, and variety packs such as “The Grill Master” or “The Breakfast Boss.”

Larger pack sizes for are also available for single items, similar to what a chef would order at wholesale prices.

Fruits and vegetables are also available to order, supplied by Intercity’s sister company and restaurant wholesaler, Central Fresh Food, also based in Richmond and who partnered with Intercity to launch the new platform.

Through that platform, Intercity is also giving back to the community.

According to a release, $5 is put into the Intercity Tip Jar for every purchase of the wholesaler’s Butcher Bundles. One hundred per cent of the tip jar funds are donated to Intercity’s partners, including the Vancouver Aquarium, Vancouver Food bank and the Vancouver Food and Beverage Community Relief Fund.

To date, over $15,000 has been raised in the Intercity Tip Jar.
