Fun fact about Richmond...

Did you know when the first high-rise building was constructed in Richmond?

Richmond was a "low-rise" community up until the 1960s, according to the Friends of the Richmond Archives.

The six-storey Richmond General Hospital was the first building to exceed the three-storey limit when it opened to the public on Feb. 26, 1966.

In 1970, the construction of a $1.2 million apartment block for seniors, known as Richmond Lions Manor, was built.

But it wasn't until 1971, when the city's first "high-rise complex" to the tune of $8.25 million, was announced to be built on Minoru Boulevard.

This entire complex consisted of three, 17-storey towers with a total of 561 units.
