Richmond RCMP’s Road Safety Unit was focused on distracted driving infractions and illegal ride-hailing during March.

During, a one-day distracted driving sting, RCMP gave out 75 tickets and more than $36,000 in fines.

"Whether it’s putting your phone away or ensuring your ride is properly licensed, your decisions behind the wheel--or in the passenger seat—matter,” said Sgt. Eric Baskette of the road safety unit.

“Distracted driving and unlicensed ride-hailing put everyone at risk. We’re committed to proactive enforcement to protect the public.”

RCMP also issued 160 tickets for driver's licence infractions and 216 tickets for vehicle-related infractions.

A one-day operation resulted in four illegal ride-hailing drivers being caught.
