Eight homes on Francis Road are awaiting demolition permits.

Eight homes on Francis Road have recently been boarded up and fenced off in anticipation of their demolition to make way for redevelopment.

Twenty-five townhomes are planned for the site, near Heather Street just east of Garden City Road, in the Broadmoor area of Richmond.

According to the City of Richmond, an application for a demolition permit was submitted in early March. After a review process, a hazardous material abatement is completed and all necessary deposits are done, the demolition permit can be issued.

The townhouses will be two and three storeys high.

The developer is a numbered company whose directors are Fuhua Yan and Man Yuan.

The developer is required to make a contribution of about $276,000 to the city’s affordable housing reserve fund and a contribution of almost $55,000 instead of building an indoor amenity space.

A public art contribution of about $29,000 is also required and will go to a city-wide public art fund.

Eleven trees in good condition will be retained, while 21 in poor condition will be removed and replaced with a 2:1 ratio.
