Richmond BCEHS awards bystanders for life-saving actions

Vital Link Awards were presented at the Richmond BCEHS station on Cambie Street.

The Richmond BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) presented awards to four people for using CPR to save a man's life.

BCEHS awarded four bystanders the Vital Link Awards, which honours the quick-thinking and skillful actions of one or more bystanders at a cardiac arrest emergency, on Saturday, March 4.

Landon Dy, Lloyd Dy, Aaron Manalo and Peter Thackwray were joined by families and friends as they were honoured for their "immediate" actions when Stephen Ang collapsed due to a cardiac arrest last year.

Ang was playing basketball at Queensborough Middle in New Westminster on March 31, 2022, when he collapsed.

Landon called and remain on the line with a BCEHS emergency medical call taker while Lloyd and Manalo performed CPR.

Thackwray applied an AED (automated emergency defibrillator) before paramedics arrived and took Ang to the hospital.
