Richmond byelection advance voting begins Saturday

Advance polls open tomorrow for the Richmond byelection.

Advance polls are opening to voters across Richmond, to cast their byelection ballot.

Advance voting begins Saturday, May 15, will voting places open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will also be advance voting on Wednesday, May 19, Thursday, May 20 and Saturday, May 22.

General voting day is on May 29.

The City of Richmond has been working with election staff and a health and safety consultant to conduct a “thorough risk assessment for all aspects of the by-election,” resulting in “site specific safety plans for each voting place.”

Accessible voting options

An accessible ballot-marking device is available at Richmond City Hall on advance voting days, and at Richmond Secondary on general voting day (May 29).

The device allows you to mark your ballot independently by using descriptive audio, touch screen, Braille, rocker paddle device and sip and puff device.

People can also request to have curb-side voting at voting places – call the Elections Office at 604-276-4100 once you arrive at the voting place.

Voters can also bring a family member to assist them with translation, reading or marking their ballot at the voting booth. The family member must make a solemn declaration, according to the city, to assist faithfully and impartially.

Due to COVID-19, voters can only bring someone who is a current member of their household.

Translated voting instructions will also be provided in French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Punjabi.

Voting places are also accessible to people who use wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
