Richmond Chinese Community Society hosts double celebration

The Richmond Chinese Community Society (RCCS) hosted its Chinese New Year celebration party at Continental Seafood Restaurant last week.

The Richmond Chinese Community Society (RCCS) hosted its Chinese New Year celebration party at Continental Seafood Restaurant last week.

Close to 150 seniors participated in the event, which included a double celebration, marking RCCS’ 30th birthday.

Programs on the day included a birthday cake cutting, singing, fitness dance, games and a lucky draw.

The highlight was the Seniors Chinese Costume Contest, with around 30, mostly female seniors, making the effort.

RCCS’ mandate is to bring together seniors Richmond’s Chinese community and it has realized there is an increasing demand for services and programs for older adults in the city.

As a result, RCCS established the RCCS Active Living Seniors Group in 2016, which created many events and exercises programs to ensure the seniors keep an active and healthy lifestyle.

There are activities like monthly birthday dim sum celebration luncheon, sponsored by a local restaurant; bi-monthly big birthday celebration party with over hundred seniors attending; regular health workshops and annual field trips.
