Some Steveston residents aren’t happy about where a community garden is being planned, saying it eats up a public greenspace. A representative of the group will voice her opposition at Tuesday’s parks and recreation committee meeting.

Tuesday’s parks and recreation meeting is one of three Richmond city council meetings scheduled for this week.

An extra general-purposes committee meeting will be held on Monday at 4 p.m. to look at taking the “park” designation off five lots at Cambie and No. 5 roads, located close to King George Park and the Cambie secondary and community centre.

The committee meeting will be followed by a regular council meeting at 7 p.m., whose agenda includes an e-scooter pilot project, a call for a three-digit national suicide prevention line, proposals to compensate for habitat loss as the city continues to improve its diking system as well as the SOFI report, which outlines salaries of all city employees who earn more than $75,000 a year.

Toward the end of the council meeting, Hamon Bal will speak to council – as a delegation – proposing traffic-calming measures on Barnes Drive, located east of No. 5 Road, south of Cambie Road.

All open public meetings of Richmond city council and its committees are livestreamed on YouTube.
