A Richmond city councillor is asking for a "sunshine list" of salaries for Oval, Lulu Island Energy Corp. and library employees earning more than $75,000.
Coun. Kash Heed has a motion at next week's finance committee meeting asking for this information to be made public, saying publishing salaries "build(s) trust in organizations and show(s) a commitment to honesty and openness."
"Public disclosures of salaries can act as a motivator for top earners to excel in their roles and justify their high pay," he said.
Salaries of all Richmond municipal employees earning more than $75,000 are listed annually in the Statement of Financial Information (SOFI).
But salaries of Oval employees as well as employees of the Lulu Island Energy Corporation and library employees aren't disclosed.
"This is a significant financial concern for me, how the Oval Corporation does their finances, and it should be for citizens and the taxpayers of Richmond," Heed told the Richmond News.
The Oval is a wholly city-owned corporation and its one shareholder is Richmond City Council.
Other government entities such as BC Hydro and health authorities publish all salaries that exceed $75,000.
