Richmond continues to have some of the lowest COVID-19 case numbers in the Lower Mainland. This past week (Jan. 29-Feb. 4), only 45 cases were detected, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).
This dropped from 59 cases reported in the prior week (Jan. 22-28).
Richmond daily cases are between one and five per 100,000 population, compared to Vancouver where they are seeing between five and 10 per day and Fraser Valley South, which is seeing between 10 and 15 cases per day per 100,000 population.
Last week, BCCDC reported the total number of cases of COVID-19 detected in Richmond since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 1,863.
While schools have regularly reported exposures to the virus, Richmond district superintendent Scott Robinson has reiterated there have been no transmissions within schools.
Long-term care facilities, however, haven’t fared as well. An outbreak at Minoru Residence continues with 17 deaths since the outbreak was declared in December.
