Shoplifting, fraud and assaults continued to rise in Richmond, according to October statistics put out by the Richmond RCMP.
There were 140 shoplifting incidents reported to the RCMP in October, which is well above the five-year range.
Fraud incidents reported to police were also higher than average. There were 101 incidents reported to RCMP in October whereas the average number is around 82.
As for violent crime, there were 161 Richmond incidents reported in October, above the five-year average range of 131 to 150 incidents.
This included 53 common assaults and 24 sexual offences.
RCMP report there were 21 serious assaults, that is, assaults with weapons - the same number as in September. The majority involved physical force and 19 per cent of the incidents were committed by suspects unknown to the victims.
Auto thefts were also up 57 per cent in October compared to the previous month.
There were 33 vehicles stolen in October. So far this year, 238 vehicles have been reported stolen, which is a 13-per-cent year-to-date increase compared to 2023, according to RCMP.
Overall, crime has risen by one per cent in Richmond compared to 2023 with 103 more incidents reported so far this year to RCMP.
