Richmond’s famous giant pumpkin grower has done it again – this time raiding the big prizes down south.

Just a week or so after lifting the B.C. title in Langley with a whopping 1,676-pound pumpkin, Dave Chan bagged the Atlantic Giant category at a competition near Portland, Ore.

And this time it was with an even bigger gourd, which weighed in at 1,728.5 pounds at the event in Tualatin last week.

A delighted Chan – a retired dentist who grows his giant pumpkins in his east Richmond backyard – was beaming from ear to ear with his latest win.

The Richmond News reported last week how Chan grows a number of giant pumpkins on his property every year, in the hopes of them weighing in as biggest in the region.

He smashed his own record last year, as well as the province record with a whopping 1,911 pounds.

The Guinness World Record for the heaviest pumpkin is 2,702 pounds and was set in Italy in 2021.
