A Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) student received a $10,000 scholarship after winning a design contest.
Alyssa Scott, a KPU Wilson School of Design student, received the scholarship through the annual Global Hospitality Guestroom Design contest.
Scott said winning the contest and receiving the scholarship gave her the confidence boost she needed towards her dream as an interior designer.
“I was way beyond excited to win the scholarship,” said Scott, who accepted the award at the Boutique Design New York (BDNY) conference held in New York City.
The annual interior design contest encourages students to develop and furnish a hotel room. The competition involved creating a line of hard furniture such as a headboard, tables, and supporting fixtures, according to the contest website.
Scott told the Richmond News that she tried to create a hands-off experience for post-pandemic travellers.
“I wanted to focus on removing touchpoints for the post-pandemic travellers to ensure that we can provide a clean and safe stay for everyone,” said Scott, who spent last summer working on this project.
“As we move toward a new normal, travellers seek new experiences, a change of scenery, and excitement.”
Scott also wanted to shout out to her instructor Erick Villagomez for critiques that helped with her design process.
