A Richmond man wanted in California for alleged sex offences involving a child was arrested Saturday by the U.S. border patrol.

Jesus Vitug, 53, drove to the Pacific Highway crossing and told U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that he was headed to Bellingham to shop.

He was referred for a secondary examination and a name check revealed that he was the subject of a National Criminal Information Centre felony warrant. He was arrested.

“Sexual exploitation of children shocks and offends the common decency of our society,” said CBP area port director Greg Alvarez, in a news release.

“I am proud of the vigilance our front line officers demonstrate on a daily basis and their contribution to safer communities throughout the Washington State.”
