The body of a man has been found in Garden City Park in the early hours of Tuesday.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., Richmond RCMP responded to the area of Garden City Road, where the body was found.

Police are saying that, at this point, the death appears to be suspicious and targeted.

It’s not clear exactly where the body was found, but a white tent can be seen covering an area near the wooden bridge over the pond in Garden City Park.

Police tape has cordoned off most of the park, with Mounties guarding the entrances to the immediate area.

The police’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been contacted and has taken control of the investigation. No further information is being given at this time.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation should contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected].

Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Should the grim discovery turn out to be a homicide, it would be Richmond’s eighth of 2017.
