Richmond RCMP is asking drivers to check their dashcam footage, after an accident left an elderly pedestrian fighting for his life.

On Tuesday, shortly before 10:30 a.m. police responded to the area of Cooney and Ackroyd roads in the city centre for reports of a pedestrian being struck.

According to the RCMP, the 72-year old male pedestrian, from Richmond, was struck by a light coloured pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck pulled over to offer assistance and has been cooperative with police.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which have since worsened and are now life-threatening.

Speed, alcohol or drugs are not considered factors in the investigation.

However, the RCMP is asking the community for any information about this incident and to check their dashcams for possible footage if they were traveling around the area.
