Richmond RCMP launched an online video to show its appreciation for its dedicated volunteers during National Volunteer Week, April 18 to 24.
This year’s theme is “The Value of One, The Power of Many,” which reflects the acts of kindness by millions of individuals and what happens when people work together towards a common purpose, according to a RCMP news release about volunteer week.
Volunteers from Richmond RCMP have made significant contributions to the community in a variety of forms, the RCMP explained in its news release. The auxiliary program, Block Watch, Victim Services and Community Policing Office volunteers have been working alongside Richmond RCMP over the years to help keep the community safe.
However, Richmond RCMP have had to reduce volunteer services for the safety reasons since the beginning of the pandemic. Furthermore, new rules put in place in 2016 around the auxiliary program have resulted in significantly fewer auxiliary constables.
“I’m sure being away from the detachment this past year has not been easy for you, and we have missed you all very much,” said Officer-In-Charge of Richmond RCMP, Chief Superintendent Will Ng.
“I look forward to seeing and working with you all again very soon, once the pandemic subsides and our volunteer activities can be resumed.”
