Richmond RCMP is highlighting support and services for victims of intimate partner violence this week.
April 14 to 20 is Prevention of Violence Against Women Week in B.C. and Richmond RCMP's Intimate Partner Violence Unit (IPVU) is spotlighting the available services to help victims of partner violence.
While intimate partner violence affects people from all demographics, the large majority of victims are women, according to Statistics Canada.
RCMP's IPVU is working together with the Richmond Inter-Agency Case Assessment Team to make sure those impacted by intimate partner violence have immediate access to a spectrum of community resources.
"Our commitment to victims extends beyond enforcement; it’s about creating a culture of support, so that they feel empowered to come forward," said Cpl. Sonny Virk, spokesperson for Richmond RCMP IPVU.
"This week represents an important moment to highlight the collective goal of ending gender-based violence, as well as an opportunity to remind the community that we are here to provide a pathway to safety for those in need."
All victims of crime can contact VictimLink BC for immediate crisis support, information and referral services.
It is a toll-free, confidential and multilingual service available across B.C. and the Yukon 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be reached at 1-800-563-0808.
