Richmond RCMP is asking for the public’s help after a boy was allegedly offered candy by a man driving a white van.
The incident happened between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning (Dec. 3), in a laneway near the 10400 block of Seacote Road, close to Daniel Woodward elementary in the Ironwood neighbourhood.
The boy was on his way to school at the time.
According to Richmond RCMP, the boy did not engage with the man and immediately left the area, heading to school. He then reported this incident to school officials who contacted police.
“This boy did exactly what he should have. He stayed away from the vehicle, got himself to a safe place and reported it,” said Cpl. Adriana Peralta with the Richmond RCMP.
“We want to remind parents of the importance of talking to your children about strangers.”
A possible vehicle of interest – an early 2000s, white Econoline van with windows on all sides – has been identified from video surveillance in the area.
According to Richmond RCMP, the driver is described as a Caucasian man, about 20 years old with long brown/blonde hair, a pimple on his forehead and scar on the left side of his face and wearing a black T-shirt.
Police continue to conduct patrols in the area and canvass for additional video surveillance.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or recognize the van is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2020-33014.
