Richmond RCMP will display the Pride flag at its No. 5 Road detachment throughout June.

The flag was raised on June 3 to mark the beginning of Pride Month as part of its commitment to diversity, inclusivity and community engagement, reads Richmond RCMP's media release.

"Pride Month is a time to celebrate the progress we have made towards inclusivity while acknowledging the work that still needs to be done," said Chief Supt. Dave Chauhan, Officer in Charge of Richmond RCMP.

"Raising the Pride flag is a symbol of our dedication to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, especially our 2SLGBTQIA+ members, employees, and broader community."

According to Richmond RCMP data, 14 of the 25 hate crimes and incidents reported in 2023 targeted the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, with most being linked to the repeated vandalism of rainbow crosswalks.
