Richmond RCMP seek witnesses for alleged masked robbery

The victim was allegedly struck in the head with a weapon by eight masked suspects in the Broadmoor neighbourhood.

Richmond RCMP are seeking witnesses to a robbery that allegedly took place in the Broadmoor neighbourhood on No. 3 Road between Williams and Ryan roads.

Police are seeking witnesses for a robbery that allegedly took place at a plaza in the Broadmoor area near Williams and Ryan roads.

Richmond RCMP received a report of the incident shortly after 10:45 p.m. on June 1. The victim told police he was allegedly attacked by "up to eight masked people" while leaving the plaza and walking toward a bus stop on Ryan Road.

"The victim alleges he was struck in the head with a weapon and his backpack was stolen," said Cpl. Adriana O'Malley, Richmond RCMP spokesperson.

Two suspects then allegedly ran toward a business inside the plaza and the others left in a white vehicle that may have been an SUV or a hatchback.

"Fortunately, the victim did not suffer any significant physical injuries but was transported to a local area hospital for treatment," said O'Malley.

The victim's backpack was later recovered in an area south of General Currie elementary between No. 3 and St. Albans roads.

Richmond RCMP's General Investigation Section has conduct of the investigation.

Anyone who was in the area of No. 3 Road from Ryan to Williams Road between 10:40 and 11 p.m. who may have witnessed or have dash cam footage of this incident should contact Richmond RCMP.

Police are also looking for witnesses who may have seen a white Hyundai sedan in the 8200 block of General Currie Road between 10:50 to 11:15 p.m.
