If youre planning on heading out on your boat this weekend or next week to watch the Celebration of Lights fireworks then make sure you have your lifejackets.
Mounties from Richmonds YVR sub detachment, along with auxiliary constables, will be out in full force at McDonald Beach and surrounding areas during the three-day Celebration of Lights Festival held on July 28t Aug. 1 and Aug. 4.
Richmond RCMPs Fraser Guardian marine vessel will be patrolling the waters, conducting checks of pleasure craft departing McDonald Beach, while additional officers will be situated on shore to greet boaters upon their return.
The main focus of this initiative will be to enhance public safety by ensuring that operators adhere to boating laws and regulations, said Cpl. Sherrdean Turley.
Pleasure craft will also be inspected to ensure they are safe and properly equipped.
The initiative is also designed to educate the public on boating safety.
