Richmond Rockets roar through provincials, now targeting nationals

Six team members are now preparing for the nationals at the end of the month

The Richmond Rockets speed skaters shone at the provincials at the Olympic Oval, with six team members qualifying for the Canadian Youth Short Track Championships next week.

The Rockets team roared out of the blocks at the BC Short Track Championships in impressive style with four golds and two silvers.

Alivia Lam (U11 Female), Roanan Tien-Vidal (U14 Male), Ryan Bolton (Junior Male) and Nam Nguyen (+55 Men’s) won gold in their respective divisions. Quirin Teh (U14 Male) and Paul-Philip Astor (Junior Male) won silver.

Six Rockets accumulated enough points during the provincials last weekend to qualify for the nationals in Selkirk, Manitoba on March 26-27.

The skaters are:

U11 Female: Alivia Lam (Richmond Rockets)

U12 Male: Tilman Astor (Richmond Rockets)

U13 Female: Maneula Escobar-Ballen (Richmond Rockets and Oval HP)

U14 Male: Andy Liu (Richmond Rockets), Roanan Tien-Vidal & Quirin Teh (Richmond Rockets and Oval HP).

Roanan also qualified for the Canada Cup Junior Championships being held this weekend, March 19-20, at the Oval.
