The Richmond School District will have a new deputy superintendent as of July 1. Rick Ryan, a former BC Lions football player and long-time administrator with the Surrey School District, has been appointed to the position left vacant after Scott Robinson moved into the superintendent’s role.

Ryan started as a school counsellor in Surrey in 1993. After a short stint in the private sector in 2000-2001, he continued working as a counsellor, district principal and director in Surrey. In 2010, he was appointed assistant superintendent. He worked as the deputy superintendent from 2014 to 2018.

Ryan played football for Weber State University in Utah where he completed his bachelor’s degree in science and a master’s degree in education.

In addition to playing for the BC Lions, Ryan played for the Montreal Alouettes, the Toronto Argonauts and the Calgary Stampeders.
