Richmond to host gang prevention information sessions

Workshops will be held on Sept. 23 and Nov. 19 for parents, guardians and caregivers

Gang prevention sessions will be led by law enforcement experts

The City of Richmond will host two youth gang prevention information sessions tailored for parents, guardians and caregivers.

Sessions will be free and held in-person, exploring techniques towards identifying and preventing gang involvement. Registration is required before attending. 

Discussions will be led by experts from the Richmond RCMP, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC and Touchstone Family Association. Resources designed to support youth will also be provided. 

Sessions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on:

  • Monday, Sept. 23 in Richmond City Hall’s room M.2.004
  • Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Richmond Cultural Centre’s Performance Hall (7700 Minoru Gate)

Topics discussed will include:

  • Identifying signs of gang involvement
  • Safe internet-navigation tips for youth
  • The importance of communication with children
  • Support for youth at risk or involved in negative behaviours 

Sessions are funded by Canada’s Building Safer Communities Fund.
