Last weekend, volunteers from Richmond’s emergency communications team participated in the annual American radio relay league field day at South Arm community centre.

More than 35,000 amateur radio operators from Canada and the USA participated in this annual event to operate from remote locations and practice emergency radio communications responses.

Emergency radio communication is used to assist and provide reliable communication during emergencies.

The City of Richmond’s emergency programs department works with local response agencies and volunteers to design plans and programs to protect the community during disasters.

The emergency management team coordinates frequent training and exercise programs so that staff and volunteers can practice their skills and facilitate an effective response.
