A Richmond woman has been chosen as one of the contestants on The Great Canadian Baking Show.
Caron Lau — a 26-year-old occupational therapist who was born in Hong Kong — will be one of 10 amateur bakers starring on the national TV show’s fifth season starting on Oct. 17 on CBC.
Lau, who works for Vancouver Coastal Health, announced on her Instagram page a few days ago that she had been picked for the show.
“It seems like only yesterday that my home oven was used as a mere storage space for spare pans,” Lau wrote.
“But today I am so excited to announce: I have the (huge) privilege of being on the Great Canadian Baking Show with nine of my best baker buds!!!”
According to her bio on CBC, Lau Caron was raised in Richmond, where she still lives, and enjoys “taking photos, playing piano and spending time with her dog.”
During grad school, she “spent time visiting a friend in a convent where she got a crash course in baking foundations — and she's never looked back.”
For Lau, baking is apparently a “mix of scientific experimentation and stress relief. Someday she hopes to combine this passion with her work as an occupational therapist to help people with disabilities learn (or relearn) to bake.”
