A Richmondite has been appointed to new Ethics Commission created by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).

Dr Frank Fowlie has been named deputy chair of the commission, which has been formed to “ensure transparency, integrity and good governance at every level,” according to the CGF.

Following on from the adoption of a Code of Ethics and Conduct, the commission, said the CGF, is a “completely independent body tasked with maintaining the highest standards throughout the Commonwealth” sport movement.

Fowlie, who has called Richmond home since 2005, is the commissioner with Athletics Canada and is the complaints and appeals officer with Wrestling Canada Lutte, as well as being a board member with the Canadian Sport Institute, Pacific.

Closer to home, Fowlie is the volunteer harassment ombudsman with BC Hockey.

“I am deeply honoured to serve on the Ethics Commission. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Commission and the GCF,” said Fowlie in a CGF press release.

Away from sport, Fowlie has served as the independent mediator with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (2015-2016) and as the ombudsman at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) (2012-2015).

The CGF is responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games, and for delivering on the vision of the Commonwealth Sports Movement.
