Richmond's mayoral seat ranks as the top second-paid mayor in Metro Vancouver.

The 2023 Richmond Statement of Financial Information (SOFI) report shows Mayor Malcolm Brodie received a salary of $198,437 last year -- not including taxable benefits and expenses.

This is a $11,841 increase from $186,596 in 2022 for the mayor's seat.

Vancouver's mayor Ken Sim is the top-earning mayor with a salary of $200,937.

Following Brodie, Coquitlam Mayor Richmond Stewart and Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley's earnings were $196,442 and $195,393, respectively.

Surrey's Mayor Brenda Locke earned $164,006, while New Westminster Mayor Patrick Johnstone earned $149,591.

The report also shows every Richmond city councillor earns $89,974, aside from Coun. Chak Au who has a salary of $79,163.

Au’s lower salary resulted from a decision to waive a pay increase in early 2019 to compensate for the fact the federal government removed a one-third salary tax exemption on municipal salaries.
