Richmond Mounties are investigating a serious rollover crash that sent two people to hospital last week.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, police responded to a single vehicle rollover along Highway 91, near exit 11 in east Richmond.

The initial investigation has revealed that the car, a black Honda Civic, had been travelling westbound when it suddenly veered off the roadway and rolled over, before coming to rest on a grassy knoll to the right of the highway, Richmond RCMP said in a statement on Wednesday.

The vehicle’s passenger, a 57-year-old Abbotsford woman, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries while the driver, a 26-year-old woman also from Abbotsford, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the cause of the crash has yet to be confirmed, however, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors.

The Richmond RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) is continuing its investigation into the crash, with assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who has dash-cam video, is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212, quoting file number 21-14263.
