Cold temperatures and snowy weather are making their way to Metro Vancouver – including Richmond – according to Environment Canada.
A special weather statement from Environment Canada says the weather system will arrive over the south coast overnight and remain through Sunday.
The system will initially bring rain mixed with snow for areas closer to the water. Inland areas and areas with higher elevation will see snow.
While cooler air will begin to make its way south from the Interior tonight, “true Arctic air” won’t hit the south coast until later Christmas Day, according to Environment Canada.
More widespread snow is possible as the cooler air arrives.
Furthermore, once the Arctic air arrives, temperatures are expected to be “well below seasonal” through the end of December.
These temperatures will bring an increased risk of frostbite and hypothermia, according to the weather statement. People are advised to protect themselves and wear appropriate clothing outdoors.
