Snow began falling in Richmond in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Richmond residents are waking up to snow this Family Day long weekend, and can expect to the snowfall to continue until the afternoon.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for much of Metro Vancouver on Saturday morning, including Richmond.

According to the weather agency, five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected across the region, as Pacific moisture associated with an approaching frontal system is colliding with the arctic front along Vancouver Island.

Drivers should beware of changing road conditions.

Sunday could also see about five centimetres of snow, according to Environment Canada, although snow will begin to be mixed with rain in late in the afternoon.
