The Steveston London senior boys volleyball team lifted a very competitive tournament title in Vancouver last week.
The boys went to Van Tech and David Thompson Secondary last Thursday and Friday to compete in the 2022 East Van Senior Boys Volleyball Tournament.
This 16-team tournament drew some of the best teams from Vancouver and Burnaby, but that didn’t stop the Richmond school, which recorded victories over Van Tech, University Hill, Alpha, Moscrop, and Caribou Hill.
That paved the way to the championship final against Kitsilano Secondary and, despite their opponents being noticeably taller, Steveston London outmatched their rivals with quicker attacks and strong defensive play, before taking the game in two straight sets.
Steveston London, currently ranked ninth in the AAA High School Sr. Boys provincial rankings, are set to play Richmond rivals McMath Wildcats (currently ranked second in the province) on Monday night Oct. 24 at 7:30pm in a tier 1 premier league match at McMath.
These two teams could potentially see each other again in the Richmond City Championship Finals to be held in two weeks.
