Traffic on the Steveston Highway overpass at Highway 99 is expected to return to normal next week.
A scheduled engineering inspection found a deficiency in one of the support pillars on Steveston Highway crossing over Highway 99 on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said in a media announcement a repair plan is in place and it is expecting materials to arrive on site with construction to begin on late Friday, Feb. 2.
A slow lane on Highway 99 will be closed overnight on Friday to accommodate the repairs on the Steveston overpass.
Motorists are reminded to allow extra travel time on Highway 99 southbound toward the George Massey Tunnel.
The Steveston Highway crossing over Highway 99 will reopen to two-way traffic by the middle of next week, according to the ministry.
Motorists can get access across Highway 99 via Blundell Road and Westminster Highway crossings and onto northbound Highway 99 from the Alderbridge Way and Highway 91 interchange.
Southbound Highway 99 can be accessed by Westminster Highway.
