Many people speak of the heart that beats loud in the Steveston community.
But the evidence of it was clear to see this week when the village’s “community cupboard” was stocked to bursting after the Richmond News’ story went live.
Lenny Entwistle, co-owner of the Best of British store – who helps maintain the community service – sent us this photo after the story broke.
The cupboard on First Avenue and Chatham Street – which has a “take what you need, leave what you can” motto was looking rather sad of late, in terms of provisions.
It has filled up fast, but is expected to empty just as quick over the high-demand holiday period.
The big red cupboard was the idea of a student in the McMath secondary Incentive Program, who came to Entwistle last spring with the concept of placing the pop-up miniature food bank outside her store.
