Richmond RCMP tracked down two people that fled an attempted traffic stop in a suspected stolen vehicle in late February.

Two suspects are facing "multiple charges" in connection to an alleged stolen vehicle in Richmond last month.

The suspects were tracked down, arrested and later released with charges pending, RCMP explained in a release Wednesday, March 5.

On Monday, Feb. 24 at around 7:20 p.m., an officer spotted a suspected stolen vehicle in the South Arm area near Pinewell Crescent and Williams Road.

The driver allegedly fled the scene "at a high speed" after the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, said Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Adriana O'Malley.

Police chose not to pursue the vehicle out of concern for public safety.

However, the vehicle was ultimately found abandoned in a parking lot.

Richmond RCMP called in the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service to help find and arrest the suspects.

"Our frontline officers conduct patrols 24/7 and this case highlights the dedication of our officers to keeping Richmond one of the safest communities in Canada," said Insp. Mike Roberts, officer-in-charge of Richmond RCMP Frontline Policing.

"I am proud of the work our frontline officers do on a daily basis to enhance public safety in our community."

RCMP are now reaching out to Richmond residents for help with the investigation, including witness statements.

Anyone with more information on this incident is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2025-6055. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go online to www.solvecrime.ca.
