Richmond MLA Teresa Wat has left BC United and is running for the Conservative Party of BC.

Teresa Wat appears to have jumped from the BC United Party to the Conservative Party of BC with an election looming in the fall.

Adam Wilson, director of communications with the BC United, said that Wat "has indicated her intention to leave our team and join John Rustad's party."

Wat is the MLA for Richmond North Centre, which will be renamed Richmond Bridgeport for this fall election, and is serving her third term.

"As we gear up for the October election, we want to ensure that all of our candidates share our vision and values," Wilson added. "If Teresa Wat feels that her values better align with John Rustad's Party, we wish her well."

Wison said that Wat and her team allegedly exported "a significant amount of confidential member information" prior to leaving.

Two other Conservative candidates have been announced for Richmond ridings. Michelle Mollineaux is running in Richmond-Steveston and Steve Kooner is running in Richmond-Queensborough.

The Conservative party has been rising in the polls over the past few months.

The provincial election is scheduled for Oct. 19.
