Early Sunday morning, someone broke into Saras Old Fashioned Ice Cream in Steveston and took off with around $180 of Lord Byng elementary schools Steveston-themed T-shirt money, as well as money left in the register.

Its really heartbreaking, said Dionne McFie, chair of Lord Byngs parent advisory council (PAC). Somebody is going to get some bad karma back.

The shop doesnt know for sure, but they think it was at least $180.

Thankfully, I had been there a couple of days before and picked up $340, said McFie.

With school out for the summer, Saras Old Fashioned Ice Cream offered to sell the T-shirts, to help out the elementary schools fundraising efforts.

The funds are for computers to help the kids keep up with technology, added McFie. All of the computers in our school have been paid for by fundraising efforts of the PAC. The kids today are very visual so they need these computers to stay ahead.

They [thieves] literally took the whole tray from the till and ran with it.

Since launching its popular T-shirts with the names of Steveston streets boldly printed on the front of them, the Steveston Spirit T-shirts have been flying off the shelf.

The T-shirts are selling really well, we are already running out of certain sizes and colours, especially the black ones, everybody seems to want the black ones, said McFie, adding they have sold more than 500 so far.

The school PAC is hoping to raise enough money to offset costs for school supplies, including much-needed computers and iPads, for the upcoming year.

In the past, PAC funds have gone towards everything from playground equipment to smartboards.
