It appears there was a fire in a housing complex on Colonial Drive in west Richmond on Tuesday.

The end unit of a housing complex in the 6000-block of Colonial Drive, near Blundell Road, was on fire on Tuesday afternoon.

According to an eyewitness, fire fighters arrived quickly and the fire seemed to be contained to one unit.

Richmond Fire-Rescue said a suite on the second floor of the building was on fire.

There was "considerable damage to the suite," according to Richmond Fire-Rescue's assistant deputy chief Grant Wyenberg.

The lone occupant of the suite was able to get out to safety and wasn't injured, Wyenberg said.

Crews were able to quickly put out the fire and evacuate smoke from the floor, he added.

The fire occurred around 2 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 28), causing traffic congestion on Blundell Road, just west of Railway Avenue.

"A fire investigator is on scene beginning the cause and origin phase of the investigation," Wyenberg said in an email. "There is no clear cause at this time."
