Traffic calming recommended in Richmond's London Landing area

Traffic-calming measures are estimated to cost $50,000.

Traffic-calming measures are being proposed for the London/Princess neighbourhood including lowering the speed limit to 30 km/h and putting in speed humps.

City staff consulted with residents in September, and feedback overwhelmingly supported these two measures.

ICBC data shows there were 28 crashes in the area over five years – although none were pedestrian or bike related.

A city speed study showed the average speed in the area was 51 km/h; 85 per cent of traffic was travelling at or below 60 km/h.

If approved by city council, a 30 km/h speed limit would be implemented on Dyke Road and throughout the London/Princess neighbourhood.

Furthermore, “speed cushions” and a raised crosswalk would be installed on Dyke Road.

The recommendations will be dealt with at next week’s public works and transportation committee.

It’s estimated it will cost $50,000 to install these traffic-calming measures.
