One local business is hoping to brighten up Richmondites’ Christmas Eve — and help victims of last month’s devastating flooding — with a festive, moving display through Steveston Village.
Alex Sagert of Steveston Sound and Stage said the company has decked out a truck and trailer with lights, a Santa decoration and Christmas music, which will slowly wind its way through Steveston tonight.
The Steveston Santa Send Off will start at around 6 p.m. and last for around two hours.
The route (see map above) includes stops at Wisteria Place, an independent living community, and at around 8 p.m., the famous Ho Ho Ho House on Garry Street.
Sagert said he decided to put on the event in honour of the Steveston Santa Claus Parade, which didn't take place this year.
"I grew up in Steveston my whole life, and have always enjoyed the original Santa parade in Steveston," said Sagert in an email to the Richmond News.
"Because they were not able to put on the parade this year, and that I have a company...that loves to be involved with the community, I just wanted to find a way to keep the tradition going, and to bring some smiles to some faces."
Sagert also hopes to raise funds for the victims of last month's unprecedented flooding in B.C. through the Canadian Red Cross and has registered as a fundraiser.
Cash donations in support of the Red Cross' BC Floods and Extreme Weather Appeal will be accepted along the parade route. Donations can also be made online.
The provincial and federal governments matching donations made to the appeal until Dec. 26, according to the Red Cross.
