A tractor-trailer has hit the Cambie Road overpass southbound above Knight Street in Richmond.
The accident caused massive rush hour delays in Richmond and Vancouver.
According to Richmond RCMP, the tractor-trailer had the trailer in a "raised (vertical) position" and failed to clear the overpass.
"The commercial vehicle was located some distance away as it was severed from the trailer unit, still lodged underneath the overpass," said Cpl. Dennis Hwang, Richmond RCMP spokesperson.
He added that the driver was "uncooperative" with investigators.
A photo taken just after the accident shows how the trailer slammed into the overpass.
A safety crew was at the scene to assess the damage and subsequent safety of the overpass.
No injuries were reported, but many commuters were affected as Knight Street southbound was closed at Bridgeport Road and the Cambie Road overpass was also closed above Knight Street.
Traffic was also heavily backed up northbound on Knight Street, as drivers slowed to look at the accident.
"Engineering and structural assessments are being conducted on the Knight Street bridge deck, Cambie Road overpass, and any near by areas affected," said Hwang.
Cambie Street reopened for traffic with the exception of the westbound curb lane at around 9 p.m. on the same day. Knight Street also reopened fully in all directions.
The incident is being investigated by Richmond Road Safety Unit with help from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement branch of the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
