Two men were arrested and charged in connection with an alleged residential break and enter in progress.

Two men were arrested while allegedly attempting to break into an residential home in Richmond.

According to Richmond RCMP, Amine Benbihi and Tyler James Harden were charged with one count of break and enter following an incident last Saturday.

Police were called to the 7300 block of McMath Road near No. 3 and Francis roads shortly before 3 p.m. on July 20, said Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Adriana O'Malley in a media release.

"The complainant advised they saw two strangers walking in his neighbour's gated yard," said O'Malley.

Police officers saw two men running from the area and the first man was arrested after the scene was contained. The second man was later arrested with help from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service.

"If this neighbour hadn’t called police, these two suspects could potentially still be at large," said Insp. Mike Roberts, officer-in-charge of Richmond RCMP Frontline Policing.

"We want to commend this complainant for their quick action in calling and providing detailed suspect descriptions to our call taker.

"This demonstrates the key role everyone can play in enhancing community safety in Richmond."
