Two companies were fined by WorkSafeBC for repeated violations in Richmond

WorkSafeBC fined two companies for repeated high-risk violations at their Richmond worksites.

R & M Gill Enterprise Ltd. got a $5,000 fine for exposing workers to fall risks of up to 30 ft while working on the roofs of a three-storey house.

Although workers were wearing fall protection harnesses, they were not connected to lifelines, nor did they have other forms of fall protection. The firm also did not have a written fall protection plan and failed to provide workers with training and supervision to ensure their health and safety.

“These were all repeated violations,” reads the WorkSafeBC notice.

Meanwhile, Juyi Construction Inc. also received a $1,250 fine for a repeated violation of failing to make sure guardrails were installed for workers framing and installing windows at a townhouse complex.

During a WorkSafeBC inspection, multiple upper-level decks and window openings at the site were seen to be lacking guards, which are required for areas accessible to workers 4 ft or more above the adjacent floor.
