Richmondites and visitors wanting to explore the city will have two new ways to get around the city for free this summer: the Richmond Discovery Shuttle and the Bike Valet at Steveston.
“These two new summertime transportation programs are designed to make it enjoyable, easy and sustainable for both residents and visitors to explore Richmond,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.
Richmond Discovery Shuttle
The shuttle runs from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends and statutory holidays, and it operates on a loop. There are five stops between central Richmond, the Richmond Olympic Oval, and Steveston Village:
- Lansdowne Canada Line station
- Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel
- Richmond Olympic Oval
- Gulf of Georgia Cannery
- Britannia Shipyards
The city of Richmond partnered up with Tourism Richmond and the Richmond Hotel Association for the project, which first ran as a pilot in 2019 with a ridership of over 2,000. It is operated by Universal Coach Lines, a Richmond-based company.
Bike Valet
Meanwhile in Steveston, a free Bike Valet service located in the Gulf of Georgia Cannery parking lot will offer free, secure parking for bikes and other non-carbon vehicles, including strollers, skateboards, and scooters.
It can host up to 75 bikes. It operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and statutory holidays all summer. The secure area is always monitored and it is operated by Bicycle Valet, a professional bike valet service.
This service is another partnership between the city of Richmond and Tourism Richmond and it is sponsored by Steveston Harbour Authority.
Both services will run on weekends and statutory holidays throughout the summer until Monday, September 5.
